Skills Training

The RiSE Program gives local refugee and immigrant women the opportunity to develop or strengthen sewing skills through free classes that meet once a week for two hours. The women learn through project-based guidance, targeting two skill levels of beginner and intermediate.

Integrated within the instruction are English-skills learning, relationship-building, and social integration for women from countries around the world.

Economic Opportunity

We connect women with business owners who can hire them for at-home production. This gives economic empowerment to seamstresses while still allowing them to care for their children as they earn income.

We are also establishing a production workshop where women create sustainable fashion products to sell on the online store and at area markets and craft fairs. We also are looking to connect with small businesses that need a "cut and sew" workforce. The RiSE Workshop is made possible in part by a generous grant from the Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation.

We also partner with Tallgrass Tailor, a tailoring and alterations business in Tulsa. Owner and tailor Shae Haining has written our sewing curriculum and is committed to hiring RiSE graduates in her shop on Brookside Avenue.
