End of Summer Brings a New Beginning

We’re enjoying the last days of a very strange summer. Maybe you need some positive news today. We have some! Kelsey Carter is joining our team as Director of the RiSE Sewing Program, and we couldn’t be more thrilled and grateful to have her leading classes and income production.

Although our in-person classes were suspended in March, we continue to sell our products and plan for online classes that will begin in October. Kelsey interned with Rising Village in 2015, traveled to Ghana with us and learned to sew on a hand crank machine thanks to a few lessons from Rising Village seamstresses in Ankaase. Since her internship with us, she has been busy completing her degrees, which include a Master’s degree in Divinity from Duke University. She is a seamstress with a wide creative streak, which is a perfect combination for this role. She will be leading a quilting class in the fall, and continuing to strategize new product lines and ways to bring income to the refugee women in our program. Kelsey lives in Tulsa with her husband, Isaac, and daughter, Phoebe. Welcome to the Village, Kelsey!
